Plateau Youths Set 2027 Charter, Demand Commitments From Candidates
Youths from Plateau State’s 17 local government areas have validated a charter of demands ahead of the 2027 general elections. Civil society groups, NGOs and political-party representatives joined the meeting in Jos. The charter is intended to move youth participation beyond campaign support and secure clear policy commitments from candidates. It focuses on issues affecting young people, women and persons with disabilities. The Plateau Youth Council said the document responds to repeated cases of youth-focused promises being ignored after elections. The council also raised concerns about the deteriorating Azi Nyako Youth Centre in Jos. It plans to hold engagement sessions with governorship candidates at the centre, asking them to see its condition and state how they will support its rehabilitation.
