Nigerian Man Sentenced to 25 Years in UK for Rape of 19-Year-Old Woman
A UK court has sentenced 24-year-old Nigerian national Gift Oladele to 25 years for the rape of a 19-year-old woman in Wrexham. The sentence includes 17 years in custody and eight years on extended licence. The court heard that Oladele approached the woman outside a takeaway, offered to walk her home, then attacked her in an isolated area. A jury found him guilty of rape and sexual assault after he denied the encounter was non-consensual. The survivor said the attack caused lasting trauma and that she later needed HIV prevention medication. Oladele was also given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a lifetime restraining order protecting the victim. He had previously avoided deportation after an immigration tribunal ruled that removal to Nigeria would disproportionately affect his private and family life.
