Nigerians Need a Clear Timeline for the Gains of Economic Reform
President Bola Tinubu says Nigeria’s economic reforms are beginning to deliver results through growth, easing inflation, stronger reserves, a steadier foreign-exchange market and higher non-oil exports. For many Nigerians, however, the real measure of progress is whether these gains reduce the daily pressure of food, transport, rent, electricity and healthcare costs. The government should provide clear, measurable timelines for when households can expect better purchasing power, more reliable electricity and meaningful job opportunities. Traders, farmers, manufacturers and young graduates need reforms to translate into affordable inputs, stronger demand, profitable businesses and decent livelihoods. State and local governments also have a responsibility to improve the roads, water, schools, healthcare, sanitation and security that shape daily life. Nigerians will judge the reform programme not by economic figures alone, but by whether their income can meet basic needs and leave them better off.
