Survivor Pulled from Rubble After 7.5-Magnitude Venezuela Quake Kills Hundreds
On June 24, twin earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 struck northern Venezuela. It was the region’s strongest tremor in over a century. Buildings in Caracas and La Guaira collapsed, killing at least 920 people, injuring over 3,300, and leaving 50,000 reported missing. Rescue teams from El Salvador, the United States, Mexico and other countries joined local civilians in round-the-clock searches. Nurse Heidy Yaneth Aguilar Morales was located after seven days trapped under concrete. She received IV fluids as rescuers worked to free her. Other successful rescues brought a mother and her newborn baby to safety after 24 hours in the wreckage. International aid continues to arrive, offering hope amid the devastation.
