Tinubu Delays Return to Nigeria Again as Absence Sparks Constitutional Debate

President Bola Tinubu has postponed his planned return to Nigeria after weeks abroad on a working vacation. He had been expected back over the weekend, but his revised itinerary now points to a possible return on Tuesday. No reason was given for the latest change. Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for London and later travelled to Paris, where he met French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré. The presidency had earlier said he remained in contact with officials and continued to direct government affairs while away. The extended absence has renewed questions over whether presidential powers should have been formally transferred to Vice-President Kashim Shettima under Section 145 of the Constitution. Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said there is no vacancy in the presidency and that Tinubu remains in charge.
