Ogun Woman Arrested for Allegedly Smuggling Drugs to Son on Death Row

Ogun Woman Arrested for Allegedly Smuggling Drugs to Son on Death Row

The Ogun State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service says it arrested Iyabo Sowunmi for allegedly trying to smuggle suspected illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ibara, Abeokuta. Officials said she was intercepted during routine screening at the facility’s entrance at about 1:33 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026. The suspected substance, believed to be the synthetic psychoactive drug known as “Colos,” was allegedly hidden inside a sachet of beverage powder. The package was reportedly meant for her son, Dare Sowunmi, who is on death row at the custodial centre. She has been handed over to the NDLEA for investigation and possible prosecution. The correctional service said it has zero tolerance for drug trafficking and other attempts to bring contraband into custodial facilities.
