South-West Public School Students Build Apps to Fight Kidnapping, Scams and Exam Malpractice
Public secondary school students from across the South-West showcased digital solutions for security, education, agriculture and commerce at the Byte Busters Coding Club Showcase in Ibadan. The winning team from Aramoko District Commercial Secondary School developed Safe Guardian, an app designed to help users alert trusted contacts and share live locations during kidnapping, banditry or other emergencies. Other students presented tools for tackling internet scams, examination malpractice, post-harvest losses and communication barriers. The programme, run under the DEFINED Project of the Odu’a Investment Foundation, has expanded from nine centres to 20 centres across the six South-West states. Organisers said more than 4,500 learners have benefited, while teacher training is also being expanded to strengthen digital education in public schools.
