Ebonyi Govt Confirms Suspension of Food Dealers’ Election

Ebonyi Govt Confirms Suspension of Food Dealers’ Election

The Ebonyi State Government has reiterated that the Foodstuff Dealers Association election remains suspended until all disputes within the group are settled. Commissioner for Market Development Okwu Oko-Udu warned that any attempt to hold a parallel poll violates the state’s directive. He said the suspension, originally set for July 17, 2026, is meant to give stakeholders time to resolve disagreements and restore unity. Under Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s leadership, the administration insists on due process and a peaceful atmosphere. Dealers are urged to cooperate with the reconciliation process and await a new election date.

Do we know if any interim arrangement will keep food supplies stable while that dealers' election is on hold?

It seems odd that market disputes would stall a whole election, especially when fair representation could settle issues faster.

The association members should pursue mediation under government supervision to resolve disputes before attempting to reschedule the election.
