Israel Declares Indefinite Occupation of Security Zones in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza

Defence Minister Israel Katz has announced that Israeli forces will remain indefinitely in designated security zones across southern Lebanon, western Syria and northern Gaza. Katz said this policy is driven by lessons from the October 7 attacks and aims to shield Israeli border communities from jihadist threats. He insisted Israel will resist any pressure to withdraw from these territories. Following the 2023 Hamas-led raids on southern Israel, the military seized hundreds of square kilometres in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria. Katz defended those gains as vital for national security.
