Indian Man Dies After Ambulance Delay for Chief Minister’s Convoy
A critically ill man died after an ambulance carrying him to hospital was reportedly stopped in Silchar, India, to clear the way for Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s convoy. Rasaraj Chakraborty, 42, was being transferred from Sribhumi district for advanced treatment for a serious liver condition. Video of the ambulance waiting at the Ramnagar ISBT point sparked public anger after it circulated online. Four police officers were suspended over the incident. Sarma apologised and said emergency vehicles must always take priority over VIP movement, though he maintained that Chakraborty’s death was caused by his underlying illness and was not linked to the brief delay. Chakraborty’s wife appealed for support for their two children, saying he was the family’s only breadwinner.
