Concerns Raised Over NIMC and Revenue Chiefs’ Reported Campaign Roles

I am concerned by reports that the Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission and the chairman of the Nigerian Revenue Service have been assigned roles in the APC Presidential Campaign Council. NIMC holds sensitive personal data, including NIN records, biometrics, photographs and addresses. The revenue service oversees tax collection. In my view, officials in such positions should avoid campaign roles that could create real or perceived conflicts of interest. I believe government institutions must remain separate from party politics. Nigerians deserve clear assurances that public data, public funds and state resources will not be used for electoral purposes. The officials involved should either step away from the campaign roles or leave their public offices.
