Nigerian Manufacturers Spent ₦1.35tn on Alternative Power in 2025
Nigerian manufacturers spent an estimated ₦1.35 trillion on alternative power in 2025, as unreliable electricity and high energy costs continued to raise production expenses. The figure was 23 per cent higher than the ₦1.1 trillion spent in 2024. The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria said many businesses are also struggling with foreign-exchange pressure, costly loans, logistics challenges, imported raw materials and weak consumer demand. Some factories have reportedly scaled down operations or shut down entirely. The association said the money spent on self-generated electricity could have gone into factory expansion, new technology and higher productivity. It called for reliable power, affordable financing, better logistics, stable regulation and stronger local supply chains to help manufacturers compete.
