Women’s Centre, NUJ FCT Seek Stronger Media Coverage of Women’s Issues
The Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development and the NUJ FCT Council have called for a structured media partnership to improve coverage of women’s leadership, economic empowerment, safety, education and inclusion. During a courtesy visit in Abuja, the Centre’s Director-General, Dr. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, proposed training sessions, media roundtables and focal persons to coordinate advocacy and assess progress. She said reporting on women and girls should be accurate, sensitive and sustained beyond commemorative occasions. The NUJ FCT Council said it is ready to collaborate on documenting the contributions of women leaders, entrepreneurs, rural women, young innovators and women with disabilities. It also urged newsrooms to give women greater visibility across governance, business, technology, security, health and other national issues.
