Why Do Business Owners Keep Rechecking Financial Reports?
I have noticed that many business owners and accountants review the same financial report several times before sending or printing it. The report may be a VAT schedule, payroll record, ledger, bank reconciliation, or even a simple invoice. It is not always because we know there is an error. Often, we are simply worried that we may have missed something. So we review the figures again, compare them with an earlier version, and recheck the totals. This makes me wonder whether the real issue is not a lack of reports or software features, but a lack of confidence in the records. Good bookkeeping should help us trust our numbers enough to make decisions without constant second-guessing. Do you also review financial reports repeatedly before submitting them? What usually makes you hesitate?
