Nigeria-China Trade Reaches $18bn as Ambassador Commends Tinubu’s Reforms
China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, says Nigeria-China trade reached $18 billion in the first half of the year, a 35 per cent increase from the same period previously. He added that Chinese imports from Nigeria rose by 81 per cent. Speaking in Abuja at a reception marking the 77th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, Yu commended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms. He said the reforms, macroeconomic stabilisation efforts and business-environment measures had created room for deeper cooperation. The ambassador said both countries were exploring stronger partnerships in industrialisation, the digital economy, artificial intelligence, and green and blue economies. Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, also highlighted Chinese support for projects including the Lekki Deep Sea Port, railway modernisation and the Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Station.
