NLC Urges FG to Cut Petrol Prices, Rejects 30-Day Fuel Relief Plan
The Nigeria Labour Congress has asked the Federal Government to immediately reduce petrol prices and reverse policies it says have worsened hardship for workers and other Nigerians. The union said the rising cost of petrol has pushed up transport fares, food prices and the cost of other essentials. It argued that workers cannot be repeatedly asked to make sacrifices without meaningful relief. The government had announced plans for lower petrol prices at NNPC filling stations for 30 days. It is also considering a monthly reviewed ceiling of ₦1,350 per litre for petrol landing or ex-gantry costs, aimed at limiting sharp price increases caused by exchange-rate and crude-oil changes. NLC President Joe Ajaero said inflation, the weak naira and the rising cost of living have made wages insufficient for many workers.
