Lagos Driver Arrested After Police Sergeant Dies From Injuries Sustained at Stop-and-Search

Police in Lagos have arrested a 20-year-old driver accused of knocking down and dragging a police sergeant during a stop-and-search operation on August 26. The Lagos Commissioner of Police said the driver initially stopped when flagged down but allegedly drove off suddenly, knocking the officer down and dragging him for several metres. Other officers reportedly pursued the vehicle and arrested the driver. The injured sergeant was taken to hospital with multiple fractures and other serious injuries but later died while receiving treatment. Police have recovered the vehicle and say an investigation is ongoing.
