US Strikes on Iran Raise Questions Over Trump’s Endgame in the Persian Gulf

The United States says its September 1 operation targeted Iranian Revolutionary Guard air defences, radar systems, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications sites. The strikes followed alleged Iranian attacks on commercial shipping and US personnel. Supporters of President Donald Trump argue the operation weakens Iran’s ability to threaten US interests and regional shipping routes. They say it challenges Tehran’s long-standing reliance on military pressure and proxy groups across the Middle East. Iran reportedly responded by launching missiles and drones toward Jordan, Kuwait and Bahrain. While the strikes may reduce Iran’s immediate military capacity, the central question is whether Washington has a clear strategy to prevent a wider regional conflict.
