Abductors Demand ₦1bn Ransom for 20 Oyo Prospective Corps Members
Parents of 20 prospective NYSC members abducted while travelling from Ibadan to their orientation camps say the kidnappers have demanded ₦50 million for each victim, totalling ₦1 billion. The victims were reportedly taken after gunmen attacked two buses on the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Umunoha, Imo State. The families appealed to the Olubadan of Ibadanland and the Oyo State Police Command for urgent intervention, saying the abductors gave them 24 hours to meet the demand and threatened the victims. Police authorities say rescue efforts are ongoing. The Imo State Commissioner of Police said operatives located a suspected camp with drone surveillance, but intelligence suggests the area may contain improvised explosive devices. The Inspector-General of Police has also deployed a senior officer to coordinate the operation.
