Why Do Some People Give Their Numbers but Ignore Messages Later?

I met three girls separately and had friendly conversations with each of them. They happily shared their numbers, and the conversations made it seem like they were open to keeping in touch. However, when I got home and sent messages, none of them replied. I also tried calling, but they ended the calls once they realised it was me. Why would someone willingly share their number and seem interested, only to ignore messages afterwards? Am I missing something about how to approach people or follow up after meeting them?
