39 Reportedly Killed, 179 Injured in High-Speed Train Crash in Spain
At least 39 people were reportedly killed and 179 injured after two high-speed passenger trains collided near Urda in Toledo province, central Spain, on Wednesday, October 28. The trains were operated by state-owned Renfe and private rail company Iryo. Preliminary reports said two carriages derailed and fell down an embankment after one train allegedly struck the rear of another that had stopped. Firefighters, medical teams and rescue personnel were deployed to assist passengers. Rail infrastructure operator Adif suspended high-speed services between Madrid and southern Andalusia as authorities investigated the cause of the crash.
