Nigeria Must Move Beyond Ethnic, Regional and Religious Politics
Nigeria’s diversity should be a source of strength, not a tool for political division. Too often, elections and public appointments are judged through tribe, region and religion instead of competence, integrity, policies and results. Inclusion matters in a diverse federation, but it should not replace merit or accountability. When citizens and politicians treat every contest as an ethnic or religious battle, trust in public institutions declines and national development suffers. Nigeria needs stronger institutions, transparent appointments, a professional civil service and voters who demand measurable performance. Our identities should enrich the country, but no Nigerian’s opportunities or worth should be determined by birthplace, language or faith.
