Akpabio Reportedly Seeks Tinubu’s Support to Retain Senate Presidency in 2027
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has reportedly appealed to President Bola Tinubu to support his bid to retain the Senate presidency after the 2027 general elections. The report also says Akpabio asked the President to discourage Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma from pursuing the position. Uzodimma has not publicly declared an ambition to become Senate President. Senators will elect the leadership of the next National Assembly after the 2027 elections. While the Senate President is chosen by elected senators, party alliances and negotiations often shape the outcome.
