Tinubu Aide Compares US Midterm Election Glitches With Nigerian Criticism
Tinubu’s media aide, Tope Ajayi, cited technical and logistical problems reported during the US midterm elections, including scanner glitches in New York, equipment malfunctions in Florida and ballot shortages in Kansas. In a post on X, he argued that US commentators had not discredited the process as readily as some Nigerians criticise elections at home. Ajayi also referred to ballots that reportedly had to be counted manually because of equipment problems. His comments came amid criticism of Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election over technical and logistical issues. The accompanying commentary pushed back by raising questions about disputed results, late-night announcements and concerns over perceived partisan appointments to electoral bodies in Nigeria.
