Otti Says Abia Will Choose His Successor on Merit, Not Godfatherism
Abia Governor Alex Otti says he will not impose a successor or become a godfather after completing a possible second term in 2031. Speaking in Umuahia during the Labour Party reception for former SDP governorship candidate Ngozi Johnson-Chukwunenye and her supporters, Otti said Abians should collectively identify the most qualified person to lead the state. He said his administration is preparing young people for leadership through initiatives including the Abia Leadership Academy, which recently graduated more than 1,080 participants aged 16 to 25. Otti also said infrastructure and governance interventions would continue from Aba and Umuahia to communities across the state.
