Shettima Says Tinubu’s Reforms Prevented Economic Collapse, Promises New Relief Measures
Vice President Kashim Shettima says the Tinubu administration’s removal of the fuel subsidy and exchange-rate reforms prevented Nigeria from sliding into a deeper economic crisis. Speaking after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos, Shettima said foreign reserves were below $3.9 billion when the administration took office. He acknowledged that Nigerians are facing hardship but said further government interventions are being prepared. He said plans include an e-logistics scheme in the North-West, 10,600 electric tricycles for the North-East, and 300 buses and e-taxis to help reduce transport and economic pressures. Opposition figures have disputed the administration’s assessment, citing worsening poverty, hunger and insecurity.
