Bulgarians Vote in Presidential Election as Runoff Looms
Bulgarians began voting on Sunday to elect a president, with 27 candidates contesting the country’s top office. The Central Election Commission said 6.59 million people are eligible to vote. Polling stations opened at 7 a.m. and are expected to close at 8 p.m. local time. A candidate needs more than half of valid votes and turnout above 50 per cent to win outright. Opinion polls suggest no candidate will meet that threshold, making a runoff likely.
