Mob Kills Alleged Child Rapist with 40 Cane Strikes in Bayelsa

A 47-year-old man, identified as Emi Sigah, died after receiving 40 strokes of cane in Ekowe community, Bayelsa State. Residents accused him of raping a minor. The community’s custom allows up to 120 strokes for those found guilty of sexual offences. Each of the 12 families delivers 10 strokes as a deterrent. The suspect collapsed during the punishment. According to residents, the alleged victim accompanied her aunty to a farm when she was ambushed. The man was caught molesting the toddler and handed over to community youths. Local government officials and security forces restored calm. The youth president and three others have been arrested and are being detained at the Bayelsa State Police Command.
