Nicolás Maduro Shares Photos Said to Be Taken Inside US Detention Centre

Former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro has shared photographs said to show him inside a US detention centre in Brooklyn, New York, months after his capture by American forces. Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were detained in January over US allegations of drug trafficking and firearms offences. Both deny the accusations. In the images, Maduro wears a grey tracksuit and makes peace signs as he says he remains “standing firm”. Image metadata reportedly shows the photos were taken on June 25, but the location and circumstances of their release could not be independently confirmed. Maduro’s trial in a New York federal court is scheduled to begin in June 2027.
