HEDA: Diezani’s UK Acquittal Does Not End Nigerian Corruption and Asset-Recovery Cases
The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) says the UK acquittal of former Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke does not end corruption investigations or asset-recovery proceedings involving her in Nigeria. HEDA said the Southwark Crown Court verdict concerned specific bribery charges tried in the UK and should be respected. However, it argued that the decision does not determine the outcome of separate cases under Nigerian law. The group urged the Federal Government and the EFCC to pursue viable cases based on credible evidence, due process and the rule of law. It also called for greater transparency on the status, location and management of assets recovered or forfeited in connection with the former minister.
