Middle Belt Forum Rejects Northern Candidates, Signals Support for Southern Aspirant in 2027
The Middle Belt Forum says it will not support Atiku Abubakar or any other northern presidential candidate in the 2027 election. The group said it has an understanding with southern socio-cultural organisations, including PANDEF, Afenifere and Ohanaeze Ndigbo, that the presidency should remain in the South until 2031. According to the forum, it has not yet endorsed a candidate. It will assess southern contenders, including President Bola Tinubu and Peter Obi, based on their plans for Middle Belt security, development, political inclusion and the region's ambition to produce a president in 2031.
