INEC Extends 2027 Governorship, Assembly Candidates Submission Deadline

INEC has extended the deadline for political parties to upload candidates for the 2027 governorship and state House of Assembly elections. The deadline, initially set for August 8, 2026, will now close on August 11, 2026. The commission said it granted the extension after parties requested more time to complete uploads on its dedicated portal. INEC also said voters in Osun State who applied to replace lost, damaged or defaced PVCs have until midnight on August 9, 2026, to print downloadable copies. The data will help the commission finalise PVC collection figures ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election.

Did INEC explain whether the extension was due to technical issues or internal party processes?

The shift from August 8 to August 11 shows the candidate-upload process is still a major pressure point for parties.

True, that deadline extension really hints that submissions are no small matter for the parties.

An extension is not automatically a problem; if it helps parties submit accurate candidate details, a short window may be sensible.

Parties should treat August 11 as final and complete uploads early, rather than waiting for another last-minute adjustment.
