NCC Begins Registration of SIM-Enabled Devices Nationwide
The Nigerian Communications Commission has begun registering and authenticating SIM-enabled devices as part of a framework targeting illegally imported and non-compliant communications equipment. The initiative will create a central registry for devices operating in Nigeria. SIM-enabled devices imported into the country will need to be registered before they can be sold. The commission said unregistered devices may be barred from operating on Nigerian mobile networks. Its Device Management System will support automated checks to confirm that devices meet required technical and regulatory standards.
