NSCDC Detains Officers Over Alleged Sale of AK-47 and G3 Rifles

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has detained officers over the alleged diversion and illegal sale of service weapons. The corps said an officer allegedly removed an AK-47 from his duty post, transported it to Otukpo, Benue State, and sold it for ₦700,000. The rifle was allegedly resold to another buyer before intelligence officers recovered it. In a separate case, investigators allegedly uncovered the diversion of two G3 rifles from an NSCDC armoury in Adamawa between 2018 and 2024. The weapons were reportedly removed without approval and armoury records allegedly altered to hide their disappearance. NSCDC says internal disciplinary action has been concluded and legal proceedings will be initiated against the suspects. The intelligence squad also announced the arrest of a suspect linked to the vandalism of telecommunications equipment.
