Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Six Suspected Gang Members, Recover Guns and Motorcycles
Akwa Ibom Police Command says it has arrested six suspected members of a criminal gang allegedly linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, car snatching, rape, cult activities and extortion. Police said the operation followed intelligence on September 5 about the gang’s alleged movement from Ikono towards Ini Local Government Area. Three suspects, including the alleged ringleader, were first arrested near the Akwa Ibom-Abia border, while another reportedly escaped. Further operations across Ikono, Ini, Obot Akara and Ikot Ekpene LGAs led to three additional arrests. Officers recovered two locally fabricated shotguns, two live cartridges, three expended cartridges and six motorcycles suspected to have been stolen. The command said investigations are ongoing and urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly.
