Ghana Police Apprehend Suspect in Murder of UCC Student
The Ghana Police Service has arrested 39-year-old Michael Mensah in connection with the killing of 20-year-old University of Cape Coast student Innocentia Avinu. Her body was found washed ashore at Hutchland Beach near Cape Coast, twelve hours after she disappeared from the UCC hostel area. Police say Mensah, who works as a driver and claims to teach, picked up Innocentia on June 11 and took her to the beach before she vanished. He was tracked down at Pedu Lorry Station on June 15 after an intelligence-led operation by the IGP’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team. Investigators are examining phone records and witness statements. The university and police have launched formal inquiries to establish the full circumstances of her death. Further updates will be shared as the probe unfolds.
