NCDC Chief Says 2027 Elections Could Be Delayed if Ebola Spreads Widely
The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Jide Idris, says the 2027 general elections could be postponed if an Ebola outbreak becomes a major public health threat across Nigeria. Speaking on a television programme, Idris said there is currently no reason to delay the elections. He stressed that any decision would depend on the scale of the outbreak and the risk to public safety. He added that health emergencies should not be turned into political tools. According to him, health authorities are monitoring the situation and factors such as cross-border travel and international flights can affect disease transmission.
