Atiku Demands Full Disclosure on $5bn Abu Dhabi Loan

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has called on the Tinubu administration to disclose how Nigeria will use the $5 billion financing facility from First Abu Dhabi Bank. Taiwo Oyedele said the government would not publish a separate breakdown of the facility’s spending, arguing that it had passed the required approval processes, including consideration by the National Assembly. The loan is part of a wider $6 billion external borrowing package, with about $1.5 billion already accessed. Atiku said Nigerians deserve transparency because taxpayers and future generations will repay the debt. He also questioned the impact of recent borrowing, citing concerns about rising poverty, security and the government’s overall debt burden. He urged citizens to demand accountability, noting concerns raised by international financial institutions and ratings agencies over debt sustainability and transparency.
