Otti Orders Probe After Journalist Alleges Civil Servant Was Removed From Payroll Without Due Process
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has ordered an investigation after a journalist alleged that a driver in the state’s Office of Due Process was removed from the payroll without following civil service procedures. The journalist said the worker was accused of truancy and that an official allegedly secured approval from the Accountant-General to remove his name. She maintained that misconduct allegations should be investigated through established procedures before a worker’s salary is withheld. Otti initially questioned how any individual official could remove a civil servant from the payroll, saying the process involves the Head of Service and Accountant-General. He nevertheless directed the Secretary to the State Government to obtain the details and investigate the allegation. The governor added that no public officer, including himself, should bypass due process when disciplining a civil servant.
