I Will Contest Cyberbullying Case After Uyo Court Grants Me Bail
I reported allegations of repeated domestic violence involving a lecturer in February 2025, saying I acted out of concern for the woman involved. The woman later released a video denying that she had suffered domestic violence, while the lecturer petitioned the police over alleged cyberbullying and criminal defamation. I agreed to a proposed settlement that included a retraction, apology, deletion of the original post and ₦250,000 compensation. I published the retraction and apology and asked others to remove the original publication. However, I claim the complainant later withdrew from the settlement and insisted on pressing charges. After my rearrest and two days in detention in May 2025, I was taken before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Uyo and granted bail. I now intend to defend myself and ask that my earlier retraction and apology be regarded as a failed attempt to settle the dispute.
