Oyo Police Rescue 15-Year-Old Boy After Gun Battle With Suspected Kidnappers
Oyo State Police say they rescued 15-year-old Sumaila Muhammadu during an operation against suspected kidnappers along the Awe–Iwo Road axis. Police said the boy was abducted from the Onidundun area of Akinyele Local Government on October 18, 2026, and the suspects later demanded ransom. Acting on intelligence, anti-kidnapping operatives and members of the Oyo Zone Vigilante Group moved to the Pipeline, Ajagba area on October 22. The command said the suspects opened fire as operatives advanced, leading to a gun battle. One suspected kidnapper was killed, while others reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries. An Android phone and a cutlass were recovered. Residents and health workers in communities around Awe–Iwo Road have been urged to report anyone seeking treatment for suspicious gunshot wounds.
