G-100 Urges Opposition Leaders to Back One Candidate for 2027 Presidency
A coalition of prominent Nigerians known as the G-100 has called on opposition leaders to set aside personal ambitions and agree on a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. In an open letter titled “The Doctrine of a Necessary Democratic Opposition,” the group urged figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to begin negotiations for a consensus candidate. The coalition argued that a fragmented opposition would improve the ruling APC’s chances of retaining power. It said a united opposition is needed to offer Nigerians a credible alternative and strengthen democracy ahead of 2027.
