Report: Alpha-Beta Projects ₦2.83 Trillion Lagos Tax Revenue for 2026

An internal Alpha-Beta Consulting LLP planning document reportedly projects that Lagos State could generate ₦2.83 trillion in tax revenue in 2026. This is more than double the ₦1.41 trillion recorded by October 2025, according to the document. The projected increase comes as businesses and households face inflation, job losses and rising operating costs. The document notes concerns about delayed tax payments, while warning of stronger compliance measures and wider monitoring of taxpayers. It also lists operational problems, including network and power outages, inadequate work tools, gaps in revenue-code monitoring and difficulty identifying companies that have shut down or are distressed. Despite these challenges, the firm reported monitoring 11,762 corporate taxpayers, identifying 7,042 potential new taxpayers and onboarding 122 MDAs onto the Lagos Revenue Portal. The report is likely to intensify debate over the fairness, transparency and economic impact of Lagos' tax-revenue drive ahead of 2026.
