British Royal Navy Officer Charged With Allegedly Preparing to Spy for Russia
A 24-year-old serving Royal Navy officer, Teddy Stanley Greenidge Young, has appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on allegations of obtaining protected defence material and preparing to pass it to Russia. Prosecutors alleged that Young, a warfare intelligence rating with high-level security clearance, accessed and retained sensitive UK defence and intelligence information during his first deployment. He is also accused of trying to contact Russian authorities through the dark web. No plea was entered at the brief hearing. Young was remanded in custody and the case was sent to the Old Bailey, where he is due to appear on October 16. The allegations have not been proven, and police have urged the public to avoid speculation while the case proceeds.
