NAPTIP Seals Port Harcourt Maternity Facility Over Alleged Sale of Three Babies
NAPTIP and the Rivers State Ministry of Health have sealed a residential apartment in Elelenwo, Port Harcourt, suspected of operating as an illegal maternity facility linked to child trafficking. The operation led to the arrest of the facility owner, an alleged facilitator and a staff member. Investigators are probing claims that a Liberian national living in Belgium arrived in Nigeria without evidence of pregnancy and left about a month later with three children. NAPTIP said about ₦13.5 million was allegedly paid in connection with the transfer of the children. The agency is tracing the children, reviewing medical and identity records, and investigating the possible involvement of medical personnel and others.
