US Journalist Cites Three Historical Cases in Tinubu Records Suit, Says Fourth Is Unconfirmed
US journalist and transparency activist Aaron Greenspan says his records-access lawsuit has identified three historical US cases connected to a narcotics-trafficking investigation that referenced President Bola Tinubu and businessman Abiodun Agbele. The cases include 1992 criminal proceedings involving alleged members of a drug network, a reported case involving Agbele, and a 1993 civil forfeiture case involving about $460,000 held in an account in Tinubu's name. The forfeiture matter was civil, not a criminal conviction of Tinubu. Greenspan said a further sealed criminal case involving Tinubu is possible, but stressed that he has no evidence confirming that such an indictment exists. His ongoing lawsuit seeks the release of FBI and DEA records, while Tinubu and the Presidency maintain that the case is a civil dispute over access to documents, not a criminal prosecution.
