British Serial Killer John Sweeney Dies Without Revealing Location of Victims’ Remains
Convicted British serial killer John Sweeney has died in HMP Whitemoor, Cambridgeshire, aged 69, after reportedly battling cancer. He was serving a life sentence for murdering former girlfriends Melissa Halstead and Paula Fields. Halstead’s dismembered body was found in a Rotterdam canal in 1990 and identified through DNA years later. Fields was killed in 2001, with parts of her body recovered from Regent’s Canal in London. Some of their remains were never found. Sweeney also attacked nurse Delia Balmer, who survived. Police suspected him in the disappearances of other former partners but never brought further charges. The Prison Service said the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman would investigate his death in custody.
