IPOB Hits Out at Tinubu Government Over ‘Absurd’ Terrorism Blacklist
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has condemned the federal government’s decision to include it in a newly released terrorism financing list. In a statement from its spokesperson, the group branded the list “a theatre of absurdity” and accused authorities of hypocrisy and intimidation. Published by the Nigeria Sanctions Committee under the Office of the National Security Adviser, the list names 48 individuals and 12 companies allegedly linked to terrorist funding. IPOB rejects any association with violence and points to repeated forceful crackdowns on its peaceful gatherings in the South-East. IPOB also cited historical grievances from the Civil War to highlight long-standing distrust and accused the government of using the blacklist to suppress dissent. It insisted its cause remains lawful and driven by the right to self-determination. Despite the designation of IPOB as a terrorist organisation by the government, the group vowed to continue its agitation, arguing that blacklisting will not erase its claims or deter its supporters.
