Former Louisiana Mayor Released After 90-Day Sentence for Sexual Assault of Teen

Former DeRidder, Louisiana mayor Misty Roberts has been released after serving a 90-day jail sentence for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old boy at a 2024 pool party. Roberts, 44, was convicted in March of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and indecent behaviour with a juvenile. Her sentence included a $5,000 fine, two suspended five-year prison terms and mandatory registration as a sex offender. Prosecutors had sought up to 17 years in prison and asked the judge to reconsider the sentence. The request was denied, prompting criticism from the victim's family and residents who say the punishment was too lenient.
