Police Rescue Two Abandoned Newborns in Abuja, Seek Mothers and Relatives
Police in the Federal Capital Territory have rescued two abandoned newborns in separate incidents in Kurudu and Gwagwalada, Abuja. A resident reportedly found a baby boy crying inside a carton on Obodo Street in Kurudu. Officers from the Kurudu Division and the Juveniles and Women Care Department took the child to a hospital, where he was confirmed to be stable. He has since been handed over to social welfare authorities. In Gwagwalada, another resident heard a baby crying outside his gate and, with help from community members, rescued the child. The baby girl was taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for examination and care. The FCT Police Command has appealed for information that could help identify the babies’ mothers or other relatives. Investigations into both abandonments are ongoing.
